I have lots of Tomatillos along with Serrano and Jalapeno Peppers in my garden this year.
Tomatillos are wonderful, their flavor being bright, fresh and citrusy. They can me made into a fresh Salsa or cooked with various types of meat.
Even though tomatillos are sometimes called "green tomatoes", they should not be confused with green, unripe tomatoes. A relative of the tomato and member of the nightshade (Solanaceae) family, tomatillos provide that tart flavor in a host of Mexican green sauces. The tomatillo fruit is surrounded by a paper-like husk. As the fruit matures, it fills the husk and can split it open by harvest.
FreshTomatillo Salsa: To make a fresh salsa, chop up de-husked tomatillos, serrano pepper(s), onion, lots of cilantro, salt and pepper.
